Return to Learn Plan

2023-2024

This coming school year brings new challenges. As we look forward to the 2023-2024 school year, we anticipate COVID-19 will continue to circulate. The Greenville R-2 School District will take steps to reduce the transmission of this virus while balancing the need to maintain a strong education system that effectively supports staff, students, and the community.
The district has developed guidelines that will optimize education and promote health and safety. This guidance document provides strategies and recommendations the district implemented at the start of the 22-23 school year. Updates or revisions to these guidelines will be announced as the COVID-19 response evolves.

Timeline and History

1925 * The Greenville School District has a long and proud history. In 1925, the Greenville District was reorganized as Wayne Co. Consolidated District No. 3.

1933 * The High school building burned, destroying all records.  A new 12-room school was created with native stone.  It was erected at a cost of $116,000 and was opened in 1935. This building was abandoned when Wappapello Dam was constructed and “Old” Greenville was flooded.

1943-44 * The first year of school in “New” Greenville was 1943-44.

1946-48 * The County Board of Education was formed.  It was a 6-member board, elected from school board members of the district.

1958 * The Wayne Co. Consolidated District No. 3 was re-organized and became Greenville Reorganized District No. 2.
